Travel tips for a smoother, stress-free trip

Planning a trip is all fun and games when you are thinking about all the amazing places you will visit and all the fun you will have. But, when it comes down to the real planning and putting things in motion, it can be very stressful.

Many things come together to make any trip a fun one and leaving out any step might put you in a very uncomfortable position. Imagine travelling and upon your arrival discovering that you didn’t pack certain outfits, or you didn’t take an important document. Terrible, right?

To help make your holiday a successful one all round, we have come up with a list of travel tips and instructions for you to follow.

Travel tip #1: Health

The first thing you want to do is get a clearance from your doctor for travelling. If there are any vaccines you are to get, ensure that you do so. What is the point of going on a trip when you end up falling sick and not fulfilling your purpose of travelling in the first place?

Travel tip #2: Passports and identity card

Make sure that your passport has not reached its date of expiration and if it has, renew it before your travel date comes around. You should also have copies of your passport, in case the original one goes missing. Consider making an e-copy you can save on your portable flash drive or email. You can never be too careful. Have an identity card on your person as well, like a driver’s license.

Travel tip #3: Money

The language everyone speaks is money. If you are going to a foreign country, ensure you look up their conversion rate and know how it works. You should also make sure that your credit card will work there. Contact your bank to clear your finances and be sure that you can afford this trip. Don’t assume that you can afford the vacation, find out.

Travel tip #4: Make bookings

It helps to plan for every trip. So, if you can, make reservations for your lodgings, places you wish to visit while you are there, and for restaurants if possible. It just helps make things easier while you are there and avoids disappointments due to something being booked out. Booking in advance can also be more economic with cheaper early-bird rates.

Travel tip #5: Packing

This is the part where a lot of people go wrong; they either overpack or worse, under pack and this is usually because of a lack of preparation. Make a list of all the things you are going to need while you are on your trip. Nothing is too trivial to add to the list, as long as you know you will be needing it.

While you are adding things into your bag, tick it off the list as soon as it enters; this is a systematic method of packing that many people swear by.
